The most validating dental podcast I've listened to
I've been grinding away in a high-volume insurance-heavy practice for seven years feeling like something was deeply wrong with how dentistry works. This podcast named that feeling and then offered a path out.
The episode on calculating your true hourly rate after insurance write-offs is something every dentist should run through. The numbers are eye-opening. Highly recommend to any dentist questioning the current model.
Gave me the courage and roadmap to drop insurance
I'd been thinking about dropping insurance networks for two years but couldn't pull the trigger. Listening to Drs. Byrnes and Spera's podcast over a few months gave me both the tactical playbook and the confidence to actually do it.
They don't just tell you to go fee-for-service — they walk through the scripting, the patient communication letters, the reactivation process, and the financial models that make it viable. I went FFS 18 months ago and my take-home has increased significantly despite treating fewer patients.
This show is doing something genuinely important for dentistry.
